Harry Potter Party

Harry Potter Birthday Party!

This party was so much fun to plan because I have been reading Harry Potter to my son!  We are on the third book so everything is fresh in my mind. For Jackson's 7th Harry Potter Party the kids spent the day at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.  They went to all the different classes: Transfiguration, Potions, Divination, Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures, and Defense Against The Dark Arts.

The children arrived at Hogwarts by going through the brick wall at Platform 9 and 3/4.  The gate worked perfectly for the kids to magically enter.

The Hogwarts Decorations:
For the wand I sanded a wooden dowel, dropped hot glue down the sides then spray painted brown.

The first class was Transfigurations.  The children pulled a card out of a cauldron and had to "transfigure" a pool  noodle to look like their word.

Next was Potions. They made an exploding elixir (vinegar and baking soda) and a Cure-All Potion (water, glitter, and blue food coloring in a spray bottle)

Divination: The children received a cup with ice. They had to close their eyes and say a spell while a magical liquid (sprite) was poured.  When they opened their eyes the color of their drink revealed their fortune (blue=fame yellow=long life green=wealth purple=happiness and red=courage).  Then they had to pop a balloon and inside their fortune was revealed.

Herbology:
They planted Purple People Eaters and helped them grow by pouring worm tea on top.
I used chalkboard paint to paint the pots so they could decorate the outside.

Care of Magical Creatures:
The children went on a scavenger hunt to save all the Hogwarts' students that had been captured by the magical creatures. I'm going to post all of the clues later.

Defense Against The Dark Arts:
Destroy the Dragon (pinata)
